Evening Telegraph - 12th May 2005

Ever notice how any bad news for Kettering gets "buried"? Anything that at face value is negative for Corby gets a prominent position.

Tonight we have two contrasting articles: Firstly a story about a Corby resident who's gone straight after spending eight years in prison. Read how he "stalked estate high on heroin carrying an axe" If you take the time to read on to page 3, column 1, in a much smaller font you'll notice that he only moved to Corby 9 years ago, having been born in Peterborough. I doubt most people read that far.

If you did skip to page 3 you probably also missed the second article "Teenager Attacked". This story is tucked at the bottom of page 2, next to the fold. A 19 year old man had his jaw broken after being attacked at the rear of Newlands Shopping Centre, Kettering in the early hours of Sunday.

Following on this theme we see "Vandalism misery for nursery group" highlighting vandalism at a Stuart Road nursery. Nothing wrong with reporting bad news, but this time it's in a very prominent position, complete with colour photograph!

Maybe that's because you by the Corby edition of the Corby-Kettering Evening Telegraph. But I get what you're trying to say. ;-)
